What if your teacher
actually struggled
with English too?
Ian Tanpiuco started as a computer technician who could barely hold a conversation in English. He struggled in the corporate world, taught himself by teaching others, and moved from Band 5.5 to 8.5. Today he works remotely with American companies — and teaches the exact system that got him there.
Ian Tanpiuco
"Not a native speaker. Not a shortcut.
A real system, built from real struggle."
Not the teacher who always had it.
The one who earned it.
Ian did not start in a classroom. He started at a workbench — a computer technician who could not hold a conversation in English. That struggle is the reason he teaches the way he does.
Ian started his career in tech, working alongside expats in an English-speaking environment. The technical work was manageable. The communication was not. He knew the job. He could not explain it.
Tech support is built on communication. You cannot do the job if you cannot explain the problem clearly and be understood. Weak English in that role is not a minor issue. It is the job. That was the moment Ian decided something had to change.
After years of building his English from the ground up, Ian made a decision: leave the tech world entirely and pursue teaching. He took IELTS as both a benchmark and a commitment. The score was proof. The decision was final.
Ian began teaching IELTS full-time. His approach was shaped by what he had lived through — not textbook theory, but the experience of someone who had actually been on the wrong side of a language barrier.
Ian expanded beyond the classroom and began teaching IELTS online — reaching students across different time zones and backgrounds. Same standards. Same no-filter approach. Different screen.
Ian began operating fully independently under IELTS Rizz — building his own framework, his own standards, and his own student base. Alongside teaching, he works full-time in an English-speaking professional environment, which means his instruction is grounded in real, current, working-level English — not outdated exam scripts.
"I did not learn English because I was talented. I learned it because I had no choice if I wanted to keep my job. That is why I do not accept excuses in class. I have already heard every one of them — from myself."
Most IELTS prep does not teach you English.
It teaches you how to perform on a test.
There is a difference between a candidate who can communicate and one who memorized the right phrases. The examiner knows. The immigration officer knows. The university professor knows. The only person who does not know — yet — is the candidate.
Using vocabulary you do not understand does not impress the examiner. It tells them you are performing. Faking an accent does not signal fluency — it signals insecurity. The moment you reach for a word you cannot actually use, your score goes down, not up.
Skimming and scanning are techniques — not strategies. Using them without understanding what the question is actually asking is not preparation. It is gambling. You are searching for something you do not fully understand and hoping it lines up. Luck is not a plan.
There is an entire industry built around drilling students on IELTS formats and template answers. None of that teaches you to actually use English. When the test is over and real life begins — studying abroad, migrating, working — the template stops working.
Booking the exam two, three, four times with no real improvement between attempts is not persistence. It is avoidance. The score does not change because the English did not change. Repeated exposure to the same exam produces the same result.
IELTS is the door. Staying inside is a different challenge entirely. Candidates who pass on luck arrive at their university or new country and cannot communicate. They hire another tutor — this time to learn the English they should have learned the first time. The money is spent twice. The time is lost once.
Which one are you?
Most candidates know, somewhere, that their preparation is not working. They keep going because stopping feels like giving up. It is not giving up. It is recognising that the approach is wrong — before you pay for it again.
The N.A.K.E.D. Framework
No scripts. No performance. No filter. This framework is built on one idea — your natural self is enough, if you train it right. It applies to the student in every session and to Ian as the teacher. Both sides are held to the same standard.
Rehearsed openers, memorized phrases, performed confidence — the examiner has seen all of it. None of it scores well. What scores is someone who speaks from their own thoughts, in their own voice, without decoration. Ian will cut you off the moment you start performing. That is not cruelty. That is the point.
Students make errors and reach for excuses — nerves, bad day, didn't sleep well. None of that changes the score. In this class, you name the mistake, you understand why it happened, and you fix it. Ian holds himself to the same standard. If he explains something poorly, he says so and tries again. No one here is above being wrong.
Keen means your eyes and ears are always on. You notice when your sentence falls apart halfway through. You notice when your vocabulary repeats. Ian notices everything in your output — and he expects you to notice too. The student who catches their own error before Ian does is the student who improves fastest.
Ian does not say "good job" unless you actually did a good job. If your answer was weak, you will hear that it was weak — specifically, not generally. Not "try harder." Exactly what was wrong and exactly what to do instead. This is uncomfortable for some students. Those students improve.
Discipline is not motivation. Motivation disappears. Discipline is a decision you make before the session starts — you are prepared, you are on time, you have done what was asked. Ian will not chase you. He books the session. He shows up ready. He expects the same from you. The framework works. But only if you do.
If you need constant encouragement to stay motivated, this is not the right class. If you need a teacher who softens every correction, this is not the right teacher. IELTS Rizz is for students who want to know the truth about their English — and do something about it.
Honest feedback every session. Specific corrections, not vague suggestions. A teacher who went from Band 5.5 to 8.5 and knows exactly what that road looks like. No filter. No flattery. No wasted time.
