IELTS Speaking Part 1 – Clothing

  • What kind of clothes do you like to wear?
  • Do you prefer to wear comfortable and casual clothes or smart clothes?
  • Do you like wearing T-shirts?
  • Do you spend a lot of time choosing clothes?

1. What kind of clothes do you like to wear?

  • I prioritize comfort over style, so I usually opt for sportswear, hoodies, and shirts that are easy to wash and wear. They are versatile and go well with jeans.
  • I have a preference for colorful and somewhat flashy clothing. It allows me to express myself and radiate positivity through my attire.

2. Do you prefer to wear comfortable and casual clothes or smart clothes?

  • Given my involvement in sports, I typically lean towards comfortable and casual clothing to ensure I can move freely. I only have a few smart outfits for business or interviews.
  • When it comes to clothing, my choice depends on the occasion. For day-to-day wear, I prioritize comfort over style, but if I’m going on a date or attending an interview, I opt for professional attire.

3. Do you like wearing T-shirts?

  • I enjoy a variety of shirts, especially colorful and expressive ones. They’re a fun way to stand out and often serve as great conversation starters. I have a particular fondness for a shirt with a cute print that was a gift.
  • Yes, I quite enjoy wearing T-shirts, particularly those adorned with intricate designs. They are especially comfortable during the summer months, providing a breezy and sporty feel.

4. Do you spend a lot of time choosing clothes?

  • On certain occasions like dates or interviews, I might spend a bit more time selecting the right outfit. However, on regular days, it usually takes me just a few seconds to grab the first thing I see.
  • I typically don’t spend a lot of time selecting my clothes. It usually takes me just a few minutes to pick out what to wear. The only exception is for special occasions like business interviews or meetings, when I take a bit longer than usual.

Do you spend a lot of time deciding what to wear every day?

Currently, I’m in the process of reviewing a few things, and it doesn’t require me to wear something special every day. A decent pair of jeans and sometimes a shirt usually suffices. I don’t have to wear any formal clothing unless there’s a special occasion, like when the school asked us to attend a gala. During events like that, I have to wear something special, but I tend to decline if it’s not mandatory. I’m not particularly into fashion or designer clothes, and it feels a bit excessive for me.

Do you prefer comfortable clothes or smart clothes?

Although smart clothes provide me with some confidence, I find it troublesome to always ensure they are properly pressed and free from lint. It can be somewhat bothersome. I generally prefer wearing casual and comfortable clothes. I also feel that I don’t want to be recognized immediately, so I tend to wear comfortable clothes that blend in with the crowd, nothing too noticeable.

Were you allowed to choose your own clothes when you were a child?

During my childhood, I wasn’t given much of an option. I remember my mom dressing me up, and people often appreciated the way she dressed me. I never really requested to choose my clothes during that time. It was around elementary school, around the age of 13 or 14, when I started becoming conscious of my appearance and began choosing my own clothes.

What do you do with your clothes when you no longer use them?

My mom handles this aspect, and she tends to give them to some of our relatives in the countryside. If the clothes are designer or relatively expensive, she might not give them away. One thing I take pride in is that my figure has remained the same, so most of the clothes I have are still in use. I rarely have clothes that I no longer use, and if I outgrow something, it’s very minimal due to my consistent figure.
