A few years back, I wasn’t really into video editing. Unfortunately, the group I was assigned to required us to create a video, and all of my team members had a lot on their plates. So, I had no choice but to take on the responsibility of editing a couple of minutes of video. Looking back, it seems quite easy now, but at the time, it was very challenging. First off, I wasn’t really familiar with any video editing software back then, although I had proficiency in computers and some technical software design. Video editing and image augmentation were areas where I lacked expertise.

To make the task even more difficult, my creativity was somewhat limited. I had seen many videos with various presentation styles, and I had to utilize the pictures given to me to present the video artistically while effectively conveying the essence of the given topic and capturing the essence of each clip. This required a lot of effort and brainstorming. Additionally, mastering the software itself added to the challenge.

I remember starting early on a Friday night. Despite attempting to go out, I ended up spending the entire night working on it without much success. However, on Saturday morning, I resumed my efforts, taking it step by step. I spent numerous hours watching tutorial videos, and eventually, I managed to pull it off. Though I wouldn’t say it was perfect, I did produce a decent video in the end.

While I wasn’t necessarily praised for it, I believe that it effectively conveyed the essence of the topic to those who watched it. Moreover, it marked the beginning of my journey to becoming a better video editor. Now, I can confidently say that I’m much more skilled than I was back then, and I’m proud of how I managed to execute the task and deliver a satisfactory result. Reflecting on this experience serves as a testament to my ability to overcome challenges when provided with the right tools and opportunities.

1. What are the things that make people feel proud?

So, people often feel proud when they achieve something out of the ordinary, something that not everyone can do and something that is hard to achieve. One great example is when someone has a family member who is a doctor or a lawyer because these are jobs that not everyone can pursue easily. It takes more than just studying hard; it requires going above and beyond the average effort. Becoming proficient in these professions typically takes almost a decade or more, so people feel proud when they accomplish such feats.

2. Do people often feel proud of themselves when they complete a difficult task?

Yes, because it’s like conquering a significant obstacle, which is a tangible representation of overcoming challenges in our lives. For example, as children, even completing a simple puzzle can bring a sense of accomplishment. This demonstrates that with hard work and determination, one can achieve their goals. As people grow older, they continue to feel proud whenever they tackle difficult tasks, regardless of how others perceive their difficulty. What might be easy for some could be challenging for others, but by accomplishing what they find hard, they feel a sense of pride in themselves.

3. What challenges do young people face today?

There are numerous challenges facing young people today. Firstly, there’s a scarcity of jobs, and nowadays, having a bachelor’s degree might not be enough to secure employment. Many positions require advanced degrees, making it necessary to strive for excellence beyond the ordinary. Secondly, economic pressures force people to work longer hours, leaving little time for personal pursuits or relationships. This can have broader societal impacts, such as declining birth rates and fewer nuclear families, as individuals prioritize work over personal life due to job scarcity and extended working hours.

4. How do young people handle difficult or challenging tasks?

Younger individuals tend to approach challenging tasks differently, often relying on social media for help or expressing their frustrations. Unlike previous generations, who relied more on personal resilience and self-reliance, today’s youth may seek assistance or validation online. While some may outright avoid challenging tasks, older generations tended to face them head-on due to a sense of importance or duty. The availability of social media provides younger individuals with an option to seek assistance or avoid challenging tasks altogether.

5. What kinds of rewards do people receive from work?

In my experience, there are various types of rewards people receive from work. Monetary compensation is, of course, a significant reward, but other forms of recognition are also valued. For example, in corporate environments, perks like pizza parties are common, as they provide a break from work while still being appreciated. However, some may find such rewards inadequate, considering them as minor incentives rather than genuine recognition. Additionally, simple gestures like verbal praise or acknowledgment can also be highly rewarding and motivating for employees.

6. What are the most difficult jobs that people do?

The most challenging jobs are not necessarily the most physically demanding or tedious tasks but rather those that individuals find personally undesirable or unsatisfying. Jobs that one feels compelled to do despite lacking interest or passion can be incredibly challenging, regardless of their perceived difficulty or compensation. For instance, I know someone who, despite being educated, ended up in a job delivering food, which he found unfulfilling. Even though the job wasn’t overly difficult, his lack of interest made every day a struggle. Thus, the most challenging jobs are often those that individuals are not passionate about or do not enjoy.
