IELTS Speaking Part 1 – Colour
1. What’s your favorite color?
2. What’s the color you dislike? Why?
3. What colors do your friends like most?
4. What color makes you uncomfortable in your room?
1. What’s your favorite color?
Recently, I’ve become really interested in matte black. Whenever I see cars with that finish, it looks luxurious and futuristic. I’ve come across a few items on some shopping websites, like laptops with that color, and I’m planning to get one. Black has been my favorite color since high school, but this matte finish is entirely different. It tends to absorb all the light, making it a bit hot, but if you’re driving or have several items in that color, it’s a great way to show off. I’m more interested in gadgets, so my laptop currently has a vinyl black, but I’m planning to change it to a matte black finish, hopefully by the end of the summer.
2. What’s the color you dislike? Why?
Back in the ’90s, there were these series of colors, the shocking colors. When you bought gadgets or toys, they came in transparent or translucent plastic cases, or sometimes in shocking colors. Initially, it seemed nice, but they didn’t look good because they tended to get dirty easily, losing their color when smudges appeared. The chemicals used in these shocking colors made them glossy, leaving a residue for a long time. I had a pen in shocking pink, and it became gooey and sticky when touched, making it cumbersome to maintain.
3. What colors do your friends like most?
Come to think of it, my friends and I never really discuss colors. We were into punk, emo, or any rock band styles, so at one point, we were interested in black, like a goth black or steampunk style. As we grew older, we decided to have different colors. It’s a bit weird for full-grown adults to prefer a certain color and talk about it with another full-grown adult, so we never really discussed colors.
4. What color makes you uncomfortable in your room?
I would say red. Although red is a good color for prosperity, it’s a bit too emotional, and that makes me uncomfortable. I went to a hotel with red toilets, and it was an uncomfortable experience. I also visited a hospital with a similar setup, and it just didn’t feel right. I know the reasons behind it, like easy cleaning and not showing stains in hospitals, but personally, seeing red, especially in the toilet area, makes me uncomfortable. In my room right now, it’s blue and yellow, and I tend to avoid any color with red, and of course, black, especially if it’s on the bed as it doesn’t look nice.
