IELTS Writing Task 2 – Criminal Description
IELTS Writing Task 2 – Criminal Description
Some people think that the detailed criminal description on newspaper and TV has bad consequences, so this kind of information should be restricted on media. To what extent do you agree or disagree? (Crime)
Introduction
Detailed information broadcast and published about criminal activities often contains descriptions that can have detrimental outcomes, and some argue for a media blackout on such information. However, I do disagree, as the media has a responsibility to make these details public for the safety of the general population and to encourage public assistance in solving cases.
Body 1
The primary role of the media is to disseminate information so that the general populace can make informed decisions. While there may be consequences, such as divulging information about criminals that could affect their families, this sacrifice is considered collateral to protect the safety of the people. For example, broadcasting about a fugitive may impact the privacy of their family or reveal their wrongdoings. Despite potential privacy issues, the benefits outweigh the ethical concerns, as public awareness enables vigilance, reducing the risk of individuals falling victim to criminal activities.
Body 2
Some argue that individuals are innocent until proven guilty, and the media should not disclose details before a suspect enters trial. While this is a valid point, the media’s role is to shed light on events as they unfold. It may bring attention to potential witnesses who could come forward and testify, aiding the investigation. Moreover, publicizing the information may prompt those who know the perpetrator to come forward, leading to the resolution of the crime. In cases with limited evidence, sharing information through various outlets like TV or newspapers may encourage people to present compelling evidence, either supporting or challenging the case.
Conclusion
In conclusion, despite potential privacy concerns, the media bears the responsibility to broadcast information about criminal activities. This allows people to participate in solving cases and enhances public safety by raising awareness. Therefore, I disagree with the notion that the media should be blocked from delivering news about criminal activities.
