IELTS Speaking Part 1 – Jewelry
- Do you often wear jewelry?
- What type of jewelry do you like?
- Do you usually buy jewelry?
- Why do you think some people wear a piece of jewelry for a long time?
1. Do you often wear jewelry?
I rarely wear jewelry. The last time I wore any was a couple of years ago when there was a special event, and I had to put on a watch and a ring. In my day-to-day life, I don’t feel the need to wear jewelry, especially because of my work with computers and electronic devices. I prefer not to have anything that might interfere with electronic or become a hindrance when I need to wash my hands frequently. So, I tend not to wear jewelry for practical reasons.
2. What type of jewelry do you like?
I have a fondness for gold, so whenever I get the chance, I like to wear a gold watch, like a Rolex, or at least a gold-plated one. I also have a few gold-plated accessories, such as cufflinks. I used to wear necklaces, but that was a long time ago. Whenever I come across unique pieces, I’m drawn to jewelry with religious symbols, like a nativity cross.
3. Do you usually buy jewelry?
I have never bought any jewelry for myself. Most of the jewelry I have is either from my mom, who passed down some pieces when I was young, or gifts from my dad, like the watch and cufflinks. Personally, I haven’t been inclined to buy jewelry because of the expense, and I prefer to live with fewer belongings, especially since I tend to move around.
4. Why do you think some people wear a piece of jewelry for a long time?
A prime example of long-term jewelry wear is rings. People often wear rings to symbolize commitment, such as in marriage. In addition, you might see people wearing rings from their college or sports teams, representing their dedication to a particular pursuit. The materials used, like gold or diamonds, can hold sentimental value and showcase the years of commitment. So, sentimental and symbolic reasons often drive people to wear certain pieces of jewelry for extended periods.
