The table below gives information about student enrolments at Bristol University in 1928, 1958 and Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant. Write at least 150 words.
Version 1
The table compares the enrolments at Bristol University from 1928 to 2008, segmented by gender and students’ location. Overall, the university had a higher representation of women, and there was a noticeable increase in the number of international students over the eight decades.
In 1958, the student body reached a thousand, marking a fivefold increase compared to three decades earlier. However, the gender ratio shifted, with around three in ten students being women, contrasting the 42% female and 58% male distribution in 1928. Initially, half of the university’s population in 1928 hailed from a 30-mile radius of Bristol. This proportion decreased to 14% after three decades, while 6% came from 27 different countries, a notable increase from the 5% and three countries recorded earlier.
Moving to 2008, the total student count surged sixfold to 6,377, with women constituting over half (54%) of the student body. Remarkably, the proportion of students from within a 30-mile radius of Bristol dwindled to 1-2% after five decades. Conversely, a substantial 28% of the student population originated from 98 different countries.

Notably, the female student population consistently exceeded the male counterpart. Over the past 80 years, there has been a decline in the number of students originating from the Bristol area.
In 1928, the university had a modest enrollment of 218 students, with a gender distribution of 6 in 10 being female. Half of the student body resided within a 30-mile radius of Bristol, and a mere 5% hailed from three different countries. In contrast, within the next 30 years, the student body expanded significantly, with a more balanced gender ratio of 32% female and 68% male. The proportion of students from the local Bristol area decreased to 40%, while those from other countries increased to 27.
After five decades, the enrollment soared to 6,377 students, with females comprising 54% of the total. However, students from the Bristol area dwindled to a mere 1-2%, while nearly a third (20%) came from 98 different countries.
