IELTS Speaking Part 1 – Chocolate

Do you like eating chocolate? Why or why not?

Well, when it comes to cake, I do like eating chocolate cake. However, when it comes to drinks, particularly chocolate milk drinks, they are too sweet for me. I prefer coffee or dark chocolate. As for chocolate bars, I probably prefer dark chocolate as well. Overall, I do enjoy eating different kinds of chocolate. The last time I had chocolate was at a restaurant where they served a savory dish with chocolate. It was a bit unusual, but they used dark chocolate on meat, and it turned out really well.

How often do you eat chocolate?

When I was younger, I used to have it almost every day. However, since I didn’t take care of my teeth, I ended up with a lot of dental issues. Now, I try to avoid sweets, including chocolate, as much as possible. Additionally, as I’m getting older, I’m mindful of my sugar intake because there is a history of diabetes in my family. So, I need to cut down on my sugar consumption, which includes chocolate drinks or even chocolate candy.

Did you often eat chocolate when you were a kid?

When I was young, I can’t say that I ate a lot of chocolate. However, in high school, I started consuming it more because my school was far from home, and I had a larger allowance than I needed. Consequently, I wasted a lot of my allowance on chocolate bars, particularly Snickers. They were cheap at that time, so I enjoyed having them every day. Unfortunately, this had negative effects on my teeth and sugar levels.

Why do you think chocolate is popular around the world?

There are several reasons why chocolate is popular worldwide. Firstly, chocolate is considered a natural aphrodisiac and has medicinal value. It is also versatile and can be incorporated into various dishes. Additionally, chocolate is often seen as a thoughtful gift that symbolizes affection, passion, and love.

What’s your favorite flavor of chocolate?

I do enjoy dark chocolate, but I have also tried orange chocolate. It’s a unique combination of the citrus taste of orange and the creamy taste of dark chocolate. Initially, it may seem strange, but the mouthfeel is quite satisfying. Orange chocolate is commonly found in cake or chocolate bar variations. However, when it comes to drinks, I prefer dark chocolate. In my country, there is a particular brand that has a slightly oily texture, providing a creamy sensation. These are the varieties of chocolate that I truly enjoy.

Do you think it is good to use chocolate as gifts for others?

When it comes to giving chocolate as a gift, it’s important to consider the quality and presentation. Recently, I came across a chocolate brand that resembled a popular brand but was a cheaper version. In such cases, it may not be well-received, as people might perceive it as cheap or easily available in grocery or convenience stores. However, if you choose high-quality chocolates, such as Belgian chocolates or those from a renowned confectioner, it can be a good choice. Ultimately, the suitability of chocolate as a gift varies depending on the individual’s preferences.
