IELTS Speaking Part 1 – Staying At Home
IELTS Speaking Part 1 – Staying At Home
1. Do you enjoy staying at home?
Before, I used to dislike the idea of someone always staying at home and didn’t understand those who did. I thought there were so many things happening in life to enjoy, so why stay indoors? However, as I got older and started earning my own money, I began to understand them better. Sometimes, it’s not about avoiding people or the outside world; it’s about finding relaxation and disconnecting from the chaos around us. Now, my perspective has changed, and I find myself preferring to stay at home more often than I thought I would.
2. What do you do when you stay at home?
I’ve invested a lot in my entertainment system, so I have a couple of gaming consoles and enjoy binge-watching movies. Recently, I’ve also started honing my skills in Photoshop and video editing, which gives me more reasons to spend time at home. Although rare, if the electricity goes out, it becomes a bit of a crisis for me since I’m heavily reliant on it. In such situations, I usually opt to clean the house or organize things if there’s nothing else to do and no internet or electricity.
3. What is your favorite place at home?
Definitely my room. I’ve put a lot of time and money into making it very comfortable, especially with having my own bathroom. For the record, there was a time I didn’t leave my room for seven straight days. I could cook inside, enjoy my entertainment system, and even work from there. The only reasons I’d leave would be for laundry or cleaning, but my room remains my favorite spot. On the flip side, my least favorite place is the kitchen; it feels a bit too bulky or clunky for my liking.
4. What did you often do at home as a child?
Growing up, my family had a hardware store, so there were always broken items or random hardware lying around the house when they weren’t in the shop. When I was alone at home while my mom did chores, I’d tinker with anything and try to figure out how it worked. I remember once trying to dissect a flat iron, hoping it wouldn’t catch fire. I’d grab a screwdriver and just start opening things up, not caring much about doing it properly since the items were already broken. It was fun, albeit a bit risky at times. As I got older, we got a small bookcase, and while I wasn’t fond of reading, I’d browse through picture books. Looking back, I wish I’d read more.
5. Would you like to stay at home a lot in the future?
I hope so. Being able to stay at home would give me more time with my family, allowing me to pursue my passions and business ventures. I also enjoy spending leisure time with my computer, learning new things online, and working on my projects. I’ve always wanted to write a book, and doing it from home sounds ideal to me. Sometimes, solitude is just what I need.
