So, I’ve got this mild carpal tunnel thing going on in my right wrist, which makes using a computer tricky sometimes. It’s especially bad when I need to use a different setup, like in a computer lab or on someone else’s system. At home, I’ve got a special mouse and other gear that make things comfortable, but without that, it’s a hassle.
And let me tell you, trying to use a left-handed setup? Impossible for me. My muscle memory is locked into my right-handed setup, so switching feels awkward and slow. Plus, I’ve grown up on Windows, and most of my friends are Mac people. Using their Macs is like trying to drive a car with the steering wheel on the other side—it just throws me off completely.
What would your life be like without computers?
Honestly? My life would be completely different without computers. My parents work in the medical field, and computers are at the heart of what they do. From running advanced medical equipment to managing patient data, they depend on computers every single day. Take that away, and I can’t even imagine what their work—or our life—would look like.
For me, computers are everything. I’ve been using them since I was a kid, and they’re just part of who I am. Without them, I guess I’d have to rely on books, libraries, and old-school methods to get stuff done. I mean, it’s not like I couldn’t do it, but it would feel like going back in time, and honestly? I’m not sure I’d know where to start.
When was the first time you used a computer?
The first time I ever used a computer was when I was 8 years old. Our teacher gave us this project and have to submit our work through an online portal . It was pretty cool, actually.
Luckily, we had a family computer at home, and my parents showed me the ropes. I’d watched them use it plenty of times, so it wasn’t as hard as I thought. Once I figured out the buttons and got the hang of the mouse, it all just clicked. I guess for us, growing up with computers made it easier to learn—way easier than it is for older generations.
In what conditions would you use a computer?
Apart from the usual stuff, like studying or working, there are a few specific situations where I’d go straight to a computer. For example, when I want to watch a movie, I prefer using my computer. The phone’s screen is way too small, and the TV feels too big—it’s like Goldilocks, and the computer is just right.
Another thing I’ve started doing is eating meals at my desk. I’ll have my food while browsing websites or watching something on my computer. It feels like I’m multitasking—getting things done while still enjoying myself.
And then there’s writing. If it’s something small, like a quick note or message, I’ll use my phone. But for longer stuff, like essays or detailed documents? The computer is the way to go. It’s faster, easier, and just makes the whole process smoother.
