IELTS Speaking Part 2 – Happy Experience

Describe a happy experience in your childhood

You should say:

  • What it is
  • Who you were with
  • What you did
  • And explain why you felt happy

Back in fourth grade, my family, along with my uncle and aunt, embarked on our first trip to Disneyland in Hong Kong. This adventure stands out as one of the most cherished memories from my childhood. Although I can’t pinpoint the exact date, I do recall that it took place during our school vacation when I was transitioning to fifth grade. This trip had been in the works for what felt like an entire year – a meticulously planned family excursion.

My parents, along with their cousins, siblings, and extended family, coordinated their schedules to ensure everyone had time off. The anticipation was palpable as we set off for Hong Kong, ready to enjoy a full 7 days of vacation. The initial two days were spent exploring Hong Kong, soaking in the sights, and indulging in some shopping. However, the true highlight awaited us on the third day – our visit to Disneyland.

Stepping into Disneyland was a surreal experience. The park was teeming with captivating rides, enchanting Disney princesses, and beloved characters like Mickey Mouse. The excitement was infectious, and we eagerly hopped on various rides, each one more thrilling than the last. As a child, it was a magical experience that left an indelible mark.

The sheer joy of being in an amusement park was transformed into something far more profound after our time at Disneyland. It was a life-altering encounter that I still vividly recall. I became an unabashed Disneyland enthusiast, sharing animated stories about our adventure with my classmates for an entire year.

IELTS Speaking Part 3 – Happy Experience

1. Why do you think some people have a better memory than others?

Well, to start with, we can talk about genetics. There are some people who simply have an amazing brain that retains memories better than others. We can also consider lifestyle – individuals who frequently engage in their cognitive functions tend to have much better memory.

2. What kinds of things do people prefer to remember nowadays?

One of the things people tend to remember nowadays is the positive aspects of their lives. Take simplicity, for instance. You’ll notice that older folks often like to look back on times when things were more affordable, life was simpler, and people were happier. Another aspect people enjoy reminiscing about is their high school years, a time of life filled with enjoyment and trivial problems.

3. What do you think we shouldn’t forget?

First and foremost, we should remember the individuals who believed in us even when we doubted ourselves. Equally important, we shouldn’t overlook those who deserted us during our times of need.

4. Why do some people remember more of their childhood than others?

Sometimes, you find that memories from your childhood stand out more vividly, particularly if you’ve been through traumatic events or had truly amazing experiences. Strong emotions tend to leave a lasting impression. This is a common occurrence in individuals who faced trauma during their childhood – they often grow up with distinct recollections of these events. The same principle applies to those who cherish memories like riding a bike for the first time or getting their hands on a dirt bike. These moments become deeply ingrained and remain embedded in their minds forever.

5. What can people do to improve their memory?

A balanced diet, adequate rest, and avoid overwhelming your mind with excessive information all contribute to better memory. It’s beneficial to be able to watch a movie and simply enjoy it without overthinking – this kind of leisure can actually aid in memory improvement.

6. What is your earliest memory that you can still remember now?

I don’t recall my age at that time, but when I mentioned it to my parents, they informed me that I was around 10 months old. We were staying in a rented place, and I vividly remember the colors and layout of the surroundings. The memory involves my dad attempting to feed me a Chinese bamboo shoot, and I responded by shutting my mouth tightly, which visibly upset him.
