IELTS Speaking Part 1 – Jewelry

IELTS Speaking Part 1 – Jewelry

1. Do you often wear jewelry?

Not often. I usually wear a watch or something similar only if I’m going to a formal event like a gala. I have my phone, so I don’t need a watch. As a student, I don’t need to buy rings or necklaces, so I don’t have many opportunities or reasons to wear jewelry.

2. What type of jewelry do you like?

Although I don’t wear jewelry, I’m interested in cufflinks. I find them interesting because they make formal clothes look better. Wristwatches are also interesting to me. I appreciate the design of these items, but I wouldn’t buy them for myself even if I had the money.

3. Do you usually buy jewelry?

No, I don’t buy jewelry since I’m still a student. However, my dad buys jewelry for my mom or friends, especially watches. As a businessman, he often buys watches for his employees as a promotion gesture. He also buys cufflinks, which are quite expensive.

4. Why do you think some people wear a piece of jewelry for a long time?

There are many reasons. Some people find it comfortable and get used to wearing it all the time, like a part of their body. I know a few people who wear a gold necklace even in the shower. It just becomes normal for them, and they feel uncomfortable without it.

5. Do you think jewelry is important in your culture?

To some extent, yes. In my culture, jewelry is often exchanged during important milestones such as weddings or anniversaries, so it carries a lot of sentimental value beyond just being decorative. Gold, in particular, is seen as a practical gift because it holds its value over time, so parents sometimes give their children a piece of gold jewelry as a way of passing down savings rather than just an accessory.

6. What kind of jewelry do you think looks good on someone?

I think it really depends on the occasion and the person’s style. For everyday wear, I prefer simple and understated pieces, like a thin bracelet or a small pair of earrings, since they don’t look too flashy. For formal events, though, I think bolder pieces like a statement necklace or a nice watch can really complete an outfit and make someone look more put-together.
