IELTS Speaking Part 1 – Hometown

1. Do you think you will continue living there for a long time?

Currently, we’re in the process of planning to relocate/emigrate to the UK. As a result, we’ll eventually have to bid farewell to our hometown, and it could be some time before we have the opportunity to return.

2. Please describe your hometown a little.

My hometown is situated in [insert name], which is a three-hour flight away from Beijing. Renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty, it boasts picturesque mountains and rivers. Located in the southern region, the climate resembles that of the tropics, with warm temperatures prevailing.

3. How long have you been living there?

I was born and raised in [insert name of hometown]. Both of my parents also spent their formative years there and eventually tied the knot in the same place.

4. Do you like your hometown?

Absolutely, I have a fondness for the local cuisine, and the city itself exudes a lively atmosphere, although it’s not as bustling as some other urban centers. The residents are notably friendly and approachable.

5. Do you like living there?

Absolutely, the locale is steeped in history, providing us locals with the opportunity to immerse ourselves in various historical sites. Moreover, the area boasts an array of amenities, ensuring that we have all our needs conveniently met.

6. What do you like (most) about your hometown?

In addition to the delightful cuisine and the abundant history, what truly stands out to me is the exceptional friendliness of the people in this area, particularly when contrasted with other places I’ve experienced.

7. Is there anything you dislike about it?

Lately, pollution has become a growing concern, and wearing a mask has become necessary. I sincerely hope that the local government takes proactive measures to prevent the situation from worsening any further.

8. Is that a big city or a small place?

In the past, it was a relatively small area. However, due to recent economic shifts, the place has undergone a transformation into a bustling city, and its expansion is becoming more evident. It’s gradually evolving into a larger urban center.

09. What’s your hometown famous for?

In addition to its historical significance, our hometown has recently gained a new source of recognition. A CBA (Chinese Basketball Association) team that originated from our town has garnered significant popularity. As a result, our town is starting to attract more attention and gain traction.

10. Did you learn about the history of your hometown at school?

Tes, we did have some historical information in the book, although it only touched upon certain points without delving into the full details. Much of our town’s history is better explored outside of the book, through visits to museums and art galleries where a more comprehensive picture is presented.
