IELTS Speaking Part 1 – Place of Work / Study

Do you prefer to work alone or in a group?

I’d say I work alone by default, just because it allows me to focus more and get things done my way. But I’m definitely adaptable. When I need to, I can be a team player. The thing about working in a group is that it can lead to some really great ideas and collaboration. But sometimes, I just prefer to work on my own to avoid distractions. That said, if the team is solid and everyone pulls their weight, it’s not a problem. It’s about finding the right balance, and I’m always open to collaboration when needed.

Do you prefer to work at home or in the workplace?

Honestly, I prefer working from home, especially at the end of the day. There’s something really comfortable about it – your own space, your own routine. Plus, there’s no commute, so you save time, which is a huge bonus. I think the flexibility of working from home allows me to be more productive and, honestly, more relaxed. Of course, sometimes you need the office setting to really connect with people or for a change of scenery. But overall, I’m more comfortable and focused when I’m in my own environment.

What part of your school do you like the most?

Back in high school, I really loved the third floor. It wasn’t just about the classroom, though – it was the breeze. There was something about the fresh air up there that made studying or just being in class a lot more enjoyable. It was calm, and I could feel that breeze through the window. I don’t know, it made a huge difference. The view wasn’t bad either! Looking back, it might have been the simplicity of that moment, just enjoying a bit of peace while being in school.

What is your favourite place to study?

I’d say anywhere except the library. I’m just not a fan of being locked in one place for too long, especially a library. I find I’m more productive when I can switch things up – maybe work outside or in a coffee shop, somewhere that isn’t too quiet or too distracting. I think it’s about being in an environment that gives you just the right amount of energy. Libraries are too restrictive for me, but when I find the right vibe, I’m good to go. It’s all about comfort and focus, right?

Do you prefer to study at home or in a library?

Definitely at home. I’m very invested in my own space – it’s where I feel most comfortable. My room is where I can fully concentrate without too many distractions, and I’ve got everything I need within reach. The library, on the other hand, always feels a bit too formal and quiet for me. I like being able to move around, adjust the lighting, and play my own background music. At home, I can control the environment, which makes a huge difference when I’m focusing on something important. It’s all about setting yourself up for success.
