IELTS Speaking Part 1 – Evening Time
Do you like the morning or evening?
I’d say mornings are my favorite. Sure, evenings are great for winding down after a long day—it’s when you can finally relax. But mornings? They’re all about hope and fresh starts.
There’s something uplifting about seeing the sun in the morning, especially after a storm. It feels like the universe is saying, “Hey, things are going to get better!” Plus, watching people start their day—heading to work, chasing their dreams—really motivates me to be productive. That’s why mornings are my go-to for positivity and energy.
What do you usually do in the evening?
Since last year, I’ve been working the evening shift because my company operates in the US. My typical evening? It’s all about projects, client meetings, and getting things done. I sleep in the afternoon and gear up for work as the night kicks in.
But when I’m not drowning in work, I love watching classic US TV shows. Right now, I’m binging Boston Legal—such a gem! So, it’s either work or unwinding with some retro TV magic.
What did you do in the evening when you were little? Why?
Evenings as a kid were super chill. My mom never asked us to do chores after dinner, so we’d just crash in bed and watch TV. That was the routine—dinner, TV, sleep.
I didn’t study much, so I’d be in bed by 8:00 p.m. but stay up watching shows until midnight. Honestly, I regret those hours now. If I could go back, I’d trade some of that TV time for studying or doing something more meaningful. But hey, hindsight’s 20/20, right?
Are there any differences between what you do in the evening now and what you did in the past?
There’s definitely a shift. Back then, I commuted to work late at night, which I absolutely hated. Imagine leaving your house at 9:00 p.m. while everyone else is heading home. It felt like I was living in reverse. That commute drained all my motivation.
Now? No more late-night commuting. I work from home, which makes evenings so much smoother and less stressful. The work itself hasn’t changed much—it’s the setup that’s made all the difference.
Do you spend your evenings doing the same things on both weekends and weekdays? Why?
Yep, pretty much. As I’ve gotten older, my body doesn’t handle big schedule changes well. So, even on weekends, I stick to my weekday routine—sleeping in the afternoon and staying active in the evening. It might not sound exciting, but keeping the same rhythm helps me stay sharp during the week. Plus, it saves me from feeling groggy on Monday morning!
