IELTS Speaking Part 1 – Laughing
When was the last time you laughed?
The last time I laughed was actually during a news segment. It was a serious topic, but there was something in the background that just struck me as hilarious. I think it was the contrast between the seriousness of the news and the unexpected humor that made me laugh. It wasn’t even intentional, but I couldn’t help it. Sometimes, it’s those little moments, you know? It was one of those times where you’re supposed to be serious, but you just can’t stop laughing at the situation.
Do you always laugh at funny things?
Not always, no. I’ve got a bit of a different sense of humor. There are definitely things that others find funny, but for me, it just doesn’t hit the right way. And then, sometimes something that others don’t find funny really gets me. It’s all about perspective. Humor is so subjective, and I think that’s what makes it interesting. What one person finds hilarious, another might find boring or even confusing. I guess I’m just a little more particular about what makes me laugh.
Are you a person who often makes others laugh?
I wouldn’t say I’m the type of person who’s constantly making others laugh. It’s not something I really focus on, honestly. I think humor is great, but it’s not something I try to force. Some people are naturally funny, but for me, I can’t really be asked to take on that role. I’m more about being myself and getting things done. I can appreciate humor, but being the one to make others laugh – that’s just not me. I prefer a more serious approach, but I do enjoy a good laugh when the moment is right.
Do you think you are a funny person?
I wouldn’t say I’m particularly funny. I’ve always been more on the serious side. Growing up in a pretty nice family, there was definitely room for humor, but for some reason, I never really developed that natural ability to make others laugh. I think it’s just part of who I am. I tend to approach things more seriously and with focus. Humor, for me, is more of a background thing, not something I actively try to do. It’s not that I don’t appreciate it; I just don’t have that drive to be funny all the time.
Do you enjoy watching interesting and funny movies?
Yeah, I definitely enjoy watching interesting and funny movies, but I lean more toward deadpan comedy or tragedy with a bit of humor. I like the kind of humor that’s subtle, the kind where the punchline sneaks up on you without being too obvious. It’s more sophisticated that way. I find myself laughing at the dry, serious situations that somehow still manage to be funny because of how absurd they are. That combination of drama and humor with a little twist – that’s the kind of comedy that really gets me. It’s more about the delivery than just the jokes themselves.
